The Challenge

When Meta announced the retirement of Workplace, Rethink Mental Illness saw an opportunity to do more than simply replace a platform.

Like many organisations, communication channels, policies and operational guidance had evolved over time. Rethink Mental Illness wanted more than a platform for updates. It wanted a welcoming digital workplace that reflected its culture, encouraged engagement and collaboration, and promoted meaningful two-way communication between colleagues and senior leaders.

The organisation also needed a dedicated space for its growing library of policies, procedures and resources, making trusted information easier to manage, navigate and access.

“Work Networks understood that this wasn't simply a technology project. They helped us transform how colleagues connect, communicate and access information across the organisation.”

The Solution

Work Networks partnered with Rethink's Internal Communications, IT, People, Design and Compliance teams to design a digital workplace approach centred on colleague experience.

The goal was to create a simpler, more engaging and intuitive way for colleagues to access trusted information, share knowledge and take part in organisational conversations.

Using Workvivo as its digital workplace platform, Rethink delivered a programme that included implementation, migration, launch communications and adoption support. This helped ensure the platform became part of everyday working life from day one.

The Impact

Within ten months, the platform had delivered against its strategic objectives, supported by strong adoption and engagement metrics.

  • 95.6% activation rate

  • 95.4% onboarding completion

  • 86.2% monthly active usage

The metrics demonstrate strong adoption, but the wider impact can be seen in how colleagues work every day.

Colleagues use the platform not only to stay up to date with organisational news, but also to access policies, procedures and the resources they need to do their jobs. The search function is better, colleagues have more opportunities to contribute and share their views, and knowledge is shared more consistently across the organisation.

Ownership has also grown beyond Internal Communications. Colleagues from teams across the organisation now help lead and manage communities, creating a more sustainable digital workplace and strengthening collaboration across teams.

" What has impressed us most is how ownership has spread across the organisation. Colleagues from different teams are actively shaping and leading communities, which has helped create a platform that feels relevant, engaging and truly colleague-led. Work Networks helped make the process straightforward, offering clear advice and expert support that enabled Rethink to create the digital workplace it set out to achieve.”

Today, 44 communities are supported by 65 community leaders from 34 different teams, helping ensure communication remains relevant, sustainable and shaped by colleagues across the organisation.

What's Next

With strong adoption and shared ownership already established, Rethink Mental Illness is well placed to unlock even more value from the platform. The next step is to harness more of Workvivo's capabilities, helping colleagues work more efficiently, connect more effectively and create even greater impact across the organisation.

This includes continuing to improve how trusted information is organised and discovered, supporting community leaders to develop their spaces, and using analytics to understand which content and resources deliver the greatest value to colleagues.

By bringing communication, collaboration, knowledge and community activity together in one place, Rethink can continue to evolve the platform from a successful digital workplace into an increasingly valuable part of the overall colleague experience.
